Hi there!

I HAD the same problem on 8 different machines (a notebook, 3 nettops, a 
netbook, and 3 desktops).
OS: 8x Linux Mint 17.2 Cinnamon 32-bit, kernel 3.16.0-38-generic. Polkitd ate 
up up to 1.7 GB RAM after a while.

My solution: deactivation of the applet 'Multi-Core System Monitor'
(http://cinnamon-spices.linuxmint.com/applets/view/79); it was running
on each machine. Reboot - all fine so far...
