Same problem here, with Gutsy Beta LiveCD. My video card is a GeForce4 420 Go (SONY Vaio PCG-FR285E)
Note that the progress bar is outsized and displaced during the first step of the boot process (when a small orange bar is moving from side to side). Then the splash screen disappears and the boot process follows displaying text in terminal mode (I guess this is the moment when the usplash progress bar should begin to fill the bar from left to right).
