I confirm that, as reported by @rubo77, this issue does not happen using non-Compiz desktop environments such as XFCE.
In the Ubuntu session, every time xorg crashes this happens _always_ on a window/menu creation (i.e. after clicking on anything that should display a new window or a new menu). However, not all window/menu creations cause the xorg to crash. I'm now testing a session with the "animations" plugin of Compiz disabled, and will report if this is a valid workaround. To disable the plugin use compizconfig-settings-manager sudo apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager Thank you very much @penalvch for your guidance on collecting useful bug reports. Really appreciated. ** Changed in: compiz (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed ** Also affects: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: xserver-xorg-video-intel (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1509846 Title: lightdm crashes on window open in Ubuntu 15.10 intel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1509846/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
