I'm experiencing the same issue, but in my case it was still
reproducible after updating the kernel to the 4.3-rc6 version, which I
installed from the ubuntu mainline PPA.

In my case it can always be triggered by changing the volume while
running the openra game(installed from the wily-getdeb/games PPA),
likely due to the translucent notification bubble. Another trigger is
the Skype notification that shows when contacts are connecting or
disconnecting.

Here's my kernel oops output shown in dmesg:
http://pastebin.com/fEPSX8Jw

I'm running Ubuntu 15.10 x86_64 on a Dell latitude E7240 laptop, with the
embedded graphics card
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated
Graphics Controller (rev 0b)

In my case the mouse is still showing and can be moved, but I can't
interact with the game. I can recover is by killing Xorg.
