To get sound to work on a Dell D830, do the following: 1. Download ALSA driver 1.0.15 rc2 (alsa-driver-1.0.15rc2). 2. Extract somewhere. 3. ./configure --with-cards=hda-intel 4. make 5. sudo make install 6. edit /lib/modules/2.6.22-12-generic/modules.dep 7. replace the start of the line with hda-intel in it so that it starts with this:
