Public bug reported: I have an NVIDIA GeForce 9400 [10de:0867] graphical hardware, and I have installed the "nvidia-340-updates' package.
When I type any Ctrl Alt F1 to F6, the console tty is active (I can blindly login as root and reboot), but the display is absolutely black. So I followed Alain Nissen's answer inside http://askubuntu.com/questions/43386/how-do-i-get-my-blacked-out-ttys-back : - Installation of the package 'v86d', - Addition of an 'uvesafb' configuration line at the end of '/etc/initramfs-tools/modules', - Update of 'initramfs' and 'grub'. But after reboot, I noticed that 1 CPU continuously stayed at 100% usage, and the culpable process was 'v86d' (version 0.1.10-1). So I quickly uninstalled the package 'v86d' and rebooted.
