I second these findings for xubuntu gutsy tribe 5. I'm running a Intel 945 chipset with the 'intel' driver. libgl1-mesa-dri has not been installed in a fresh installation. An entry in xorg.0.log led me to the solution. I'd suggest to include libgl1-mesa-dri in the default setup.
