Binary package hint: acpi

I just bought a brand new pc, a HP Pavilion a6150e that has an AMD
Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4800+ processor in an Asus M2N68-LA
motherboard.  When I boot with acpi enabled, my second core is not
recognized and the computer will not power off when shutdown.

To remedy this problem I have add "acpi=off apm=power_off" to the kernel
options in /boot/grub/menu.lst and "apm power_off=1" to /etc/modules.
This fixes both problems but then acpi is disabled and I can't utilize
utilities such as powernow for my AMD Athlon processor.  According to
dmidecode, acpi is suppose to be supported.
