I've just upgraded to gutsy. There are two different modules for asus laptops: asus_acpi and asus-laptop. asus-laptop is the new version of asus_acpi and it should be removed. asus_acpi is enabled by default and so the laptop isn't recognized. However adding 'asus_laptop' at the bottom of /etc/modules solved the problem.
