Hm... I can't confirm such a behaviour on Gutsy. Listen was one of the first 
things I installed on Tribe5 and it didn't install python-musicbrainz2 for me.
I think I used apt-get to install. Maybe this has only been changed in Synaptic?
So I still think it would be best to change the dependency for that one package.

But come to think of it, shouldn't gstreamer0.10-esd be removed from the 
recommended packages, since esound isn't part of the default install anymore?
And to be honest, I never understood the recommendation for serpentine. Making 
it a suggestion should be enough.
