You should see the "grub" boot menu after a restart as it failed to boot. Please select "Advanced options", and start the entry marked with "(with upstart)". Does your computer boot again with that? If so, please attach the following files:
/var/log/syslog /etc/fstab and copy&paste the output of "sudo blkid" from a terminal.
