Confirmed as per Paul Chandler, cannot start samba at all after
installing via:

sudo apt-get install gksu
sudo apt-get install samba samba-common
sudo apt-get install system-config-samba cifs-utils
sudo testparm
sudo service smbd restart

I've tried numerous variations found online, and still can't start
samba.
