Gizmo: OK, that's interesting; life is normally easier testing in a VM anyway - 
although we do have to
be careful about grouping them to the same bug report until we're really sure.  
Anyway:

Can you please do the following when it fails:
  1) Confirm whether the guest still pings
  2) If it pings can you ssh into the guest (please set it up before hand so 
that you can)
      -> If you can ssh in then see if there's anything in the logs
  3) Look at the QEMU logs; where to find those will depend on how you're 
running QEMU; if you're running it with virt-manager and it's using the 
system's libvirtd, then the logs should be in /var/log/libvirt/qemu/vmname    
perhaps it will log something there.
