(Subscribing bim2006) The "dotfile problem" is Bug #106217 and is described on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/Nvidia . I'm not sure about reopening a bug that the original reporter is no longer interested in though (you should definitely be subscribing yourself to the bug if this is your intent though). Rather than doing this it might be an idea to file a new bug report and post a link to the original bug report.
