UBUNTU 12.04 radeon rv250 (old yes I know but works.. read on) I've got the same problem in two different test cases
1 - fresh install of gnome-shell on Xubuntu, using metapackage from an otherwise functional Both XFCE4 and a "Compiz standalone (0.8.9) session" work fine. 2 - live CD of Ubuntu-Gnome radeon seems to be the issue as the .xsession-errors report incorrect parameters: here's part of the error log ** (nautilus:4964): WARNING **: Can not determine workarea, guessing at layout failed to create drawable (gnome-shell:4956): folks-WARNING **: Failed to find primary PersonaStore with type ID 'eds' and ID 'system'.
