Thanks Georg - your advice to edit the PPD fixed the problem for me. I have Dapper 6.06 LTS running OpenOffice 2.0.2 which was unable to select A4 paper size for our Brother HL-6050. (My Edgy 6.10 running OO 2.0.4 doesn't have this problem) There is no newer deb from Brother, but editing the PPD as you describe above did the trick.
