Good morning, guys. It's seems that this incident happens only with 7.04 and 7.10 distros along with usb 1.1 port. I can assure this because I'm so luck that I have three computer in my house and I tried my usb wifi dongle with everyone.
Look at the table Computer Usb Ubuntu version Works? p5gd1-pro Mobo 2.0 7.04 Yes hp Omnibook 6100 1.1 7.04 No hp Omnibook XE3 1.1 6.10 Yes I also tried to start hp 6100 with Ubuntu 6.10 and, still, the dongle proudly works, Notice that XE3 is far older than 6100 (which is old too ;) ). I guess that something has changed in worse from 6.10 to 7.04. Sadly, wifi dongle works fine if hp6100 is booted in the w.....s partition.
