Of course it is a bug.
It's all about convenience!

If you require the user to start jackd, it's only a small step to have
them write a small shell script to do this, set this environment variable
to do that ... and finally there is a big mess and nobody uses it.

This is the reason why all musicians *love* Apple: It simply works!

So, pleeeeease, make it easy to use ardour:
1. Install feisty with cdrom
2. Install ardour via synaptic
3. Everything works and you can record in minutes

Then I can go and tell my musician friends that linux is on its
way to world domination.

Right now it's not. :(
(Say: ardour doesn't work out of the box)
