Same (or similar) issue on Ubuntu 14.04. Temperature often does not show up on boot and login. Clicking on the icon does nothing. I kill the process and restart it, which solves the problem for a while. Eventually the temperature disappears again and the icon goes back to doing nothing. Didn't have these issues in 12.04.
