I verified this in trusty by install the version of apt from -proposed, then installing kernel version 3.13.0-48 and then running apt-get autoremove and received the following message:
bdmurray@bizarro:~/bin$ sudo apt-get autoremove Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done The following packages will be REMOVED: linux-headers-3.13.0-46 linux-headers-3.13.0-46-generic linux-image-3.13.0-46-generic linux-image-extra-3.13.0-46-generic 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 4 to remove and 0 not upgraded. After this operation, 271 MB disk space will be freed. Do you want to continue?
