Hi, After searching half a day for a solution to the black screen of death issue, I finally ended up at this thread. I am happy to report the problem on Lenovo T61 with Intel 965GM graphic card on a Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is fixed by following Jamie's steps listed in comment #99. It does need an updated kernel, mine is 3.13.0-46-generic #79-ubuntu.
I would appreciate if someone with more knowledge then I propagates this solution to 50+ sites which discusses the black screen problem but with no viable solution!
