This issue is not getting enough attention. I don't know if you all have SSDs but most people don't. On hard disk drives this is a huge issue. System responsiveness drops when tracker is running and pretty much nothing else can run smoothly while it's running, even on computers with fast CPU/large amounts of RAM. The I/O is often the cause of system slowdown and this needs to be reduced as much as possible. I'm sure this issue can be fixed, a background daemon doesn't need to run at full speed, it can be niced to 19, and internal fixes can be made.
