Typically what happens when lircd is closing upon its own, its as a
client tries to connect to it.  Irkick in this case would be that client
attempting to connect to it.  Do any other clients cause the same thing
to happen too then?  If you don't have any media apps configured yet,
you can test with the irw client.  Here is a quick run down on how to
use it: http://www.lirc.org/html/irw.html

Also, you do have a /dev/lirc0 when lirc_i2c is modprobed, correct?
