Well the thing is after a few more upgrades, I couldn't start compiz at all, but then i read a post at ubuntuforums where a user had the same problem, he made a new "clean" user and with that he could get compiz running, this works for me on my x60s (intel card), but on two other laptops I've tried it (an older CL56 (ati card) and a brand new T61 (nvidia card)) making a new user and running "compiz --replace -c emerald &" just crashes in the same way as with the original user.
the error I get when compiz crashes is: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ compiz --replace -c emerald & [1] 29727 [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ Checking for Xgl: not present. Checking for texture_from_pixmap: not present.
