It seems that I cannot reproduce the lockups with scim-1.4.7-1ubuntu1 now. But I am sure it was still reproducible when I was writing my previous post. I didn't do anything special w.r.t. scim setup. I just installed from the latest tribe desktop CD, and installed Chinese language support, and typed "im-switch -s scim-pinyin" under English locale. Perhaps I forgot to change "FrontEnd/X11/Dynamic" or a recent Xorg update fixed the issue?
