I urge to do a survey on the usage of those tests. In all of my apps, I just deleted those test directories and I'm quite sure 90% of app developers do the same while the other 10% of people writing tests will drop the template and do it "their way". IMO energy should better be spent on documenting this on developer.ubuntu.com instead of dumping it all to the templates and make it hard to upgrade the template in existing apps.
