I've stopped doing SETI@home for a while, but now have restarted and the problem has disappeared. I'm currently on Ubuntu 14.10 running native version of BOINC. But i'm planning to downgrade to XUbuntu 14.04 LTS in a little bit, i'll tell you what happens then.
