I have traced back as far as I can, and find dhcdbd is an **optional**
package. I also find that the only thing that depends on it is network
manager (so we are back to the circle of who owns the bug, I guess).
Having lost the overnight connection after I fell asleep, costing about
7 hours of productive work, I decided the use the package manager to
uninstall dhcdbd -- taking with it the network manager and installing
wifi-radar as a substitute. I am not cray about this app, but it works
(so far) without random disconnects or generating errors. Another
alternative I have not tried is wicd.

If you need the connectivity, and cannot wait for a proper fix, you
might try the approach of "don't try to overcome problems, avoid
problems." Good luck to all. You can contact me via pm in the ubuntu
forums.
