Two days ago the state (on the Austrian mirror) was a pain, but with current updates ... I confirm it works now with gutsy-amd64 on a Thinkpad T61p with Nvidia Quadro FX 570M.
However, I had to explicitly uninstall the manual installation of NVidia's driver, I reinstalled nvidia-glx-new and restricted-modules.
