John, the issue now reoccurred for me, too. Just after re-applying my fix, I was able to shutdown and reboot just fine, so it's not every cold boot that messes things up. But when I then ran Synaptic to install the latest updates, shutdown, and tried to re-start, the problem reoccurred!
So, it seems that a package installation breaks the system again (which is quite logical, as a package repair fixes the problem). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1386775 Title: After upgrading Ubuntu 14.04 to 14.10, boot process halts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1386775/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
