apport information

** Description changed:

When typing in several applications (libreoffice, and firefox, at
least) the keyboard is unreliable, to the point of being unusable.
Sometimes it starts missing characters and occasionally inserting extra
characters - input will stop (while I continue to type) and after a few
missing keystrokes operation will resume, oftenwith a few (to a dozen)
extra characters are inserted. The extra characters will be the same
(for the occurrence), and one of the characters I typed ( I think it may
be the first "missing" character.) For example, say I was typing
"partridge", and this problem occurs when I type the "t": I might get
to the end of the word with "part" displaying, then "partrrrrr" might
  appear.

I type at 80 words per minute. If I type at 20 words per minute, this
  does not occur.

This is not a hardware fault: I replaced the hard drive before
installing ubuntu, so I reinstalled the windows 7 drive to see if the
problem was present. All keyboard operations returned to normal with
the Windows disk. I again swapped out the disks, then reinstalled
Ubuntu from scatch, reformatting the disk. The fault continues to
  occur.

I note that when this is occurring, I find the following in syslog:
  ul 25 17:50:38 tuxtop kernel: [ 6686.308573] psmouse serio1: TouchPad at

Googling for similar, both the overt symptom (keystrokes
missed/repeated) and the above messages have been reported before (at
least as early as 2008), but no fixes identified.
