Thanks, Logan Sander, please install the scanbd package and see if it works for you. You can grab it from my PPA for trusty and later.
For me, it works when I start scanbd from the command line (with -f switch to stay in the foreground). Things do not work properly yet, when scanbd is simply started from init. I still haven't had much of a chance to put together some good action scripts, so help and testing there is still appreciated.
