Public bug reported: When removed (but not purged), apport leaves /etc/init/apport.conf and /etc/init.d/apport, which is enough for commands like "service apport start" to work. "service apport start" runs without complaining and overrides /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern to send core dumps to apport, even though apport doesn't exist.
Apport's service scripts should refuse to run if Apport isn't installed and, in particular, shouldn't break /proc/sys/kernel/core_pattern. Observed in Ubuntu 14.04.1, apport 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.5. ** Affects: apport (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1392447 Title: apport "starts" even when not installed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/+bug/1392447/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
