Alright, well I recently rebooted and low and behold the printer did not work again...what a suprise. Anyway so I retraced my steps and it seems that I have to: 1.) start /etc/init.d/hplip, otherwise the kde printing wizard doesnt see the printer :-/ 2.)Unplug the printer (from the port on the comp.), replug it and then go through the wizard. In order for my printer to be seen and work...kind of alot but hey...whatever works...just in case somebody else happens to be having the same problem this works.
