Using Gutsy or Feisty with the latest nvidia drivers available (installing
using restricted drivers wizard) is really slow.
My previous card was a 6600 GT (wich I am using now) and worked
perfectly. Now with the new card, everything works much slower. Direct
rendering is enabled, and the nvidia driver is loaded acording to
xorg.conf. One odd behaviour I noticed is that when I launch glxgears
the system freezes and the login screen is displayed again. Another
issue I noticed is that when using this card, I can't set my lcd
monitor (samsung 971p) properly. Only 50hz and 54hz refresh rate is
available. With the 6600gt I can set 60hz or 75hz wich is the
recommended setting.
Tried with manual driver install, envy, restricted drivers. Everything
with the same results when using 8600 gt.... really slow.
I had to install my previous card (6600gt) in order to keep using
ubuntu, I hope we can sort this out so I can use my new card wich is now
collecting dust :)
