Horrible problem in 14.04 and 14.10. It is very slow with folders that contain 500+ files (png, jpg, mp4, mkv). I tested for example a folder with 1000 files. The files were 400 png, 400 jpg, 100 mkv and 100 mp4. It was amazingly slow. Took more than 10 seconds to start showing the previews and then another 60 to 70 seconds to show all. Super slow. The ironic thing is, I have an Intel i7 4700, 32 GB of RAM and the hdd where they are is a Samsung SSD 840PRO. So there was actually no excuse for so slow performance. I can not imagine something with a normal system.
