"Assistive Technology" seems to play a large part in the problem.
Initially, I had it enabled, and observed 1MB leak (with the letter "g"). Then I disabled it ( opening System->Preferences->Accessibility->Assistive Technology Preferences then unchecking "Enable assistive technologies"), logged out, logged in again.
