Robert: If you are capable of building your own kernels, I think your best bet of having this problem resolved (given that you have said it persists into Gutsy) is to test a vanilla kernel and report the issue in the upstream kernel bugzilla ( http://bugzilla.kernel.org/ ). Your interrupt routing sounds quirky and might need a workaround (or a BIOS update).
