The latest testing I have done is to reinstall Edubuntu:

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04
Package: linux-image-3.13.0-32-generic 3.13.0-32.57 [modified:
boot/vmlinuz-3.13.0-32-generic]

Then, instead of using the default GUI, Unity, I installed the Gnome
Fallback which comes with the package.

Use of Gnome Fallback eliminates the suspend issues I am having with
these laptops. Therefore, I believe that the bug is not within Ubuntu
3.13 per se, but within Unity.

I hope this is helpful.
