I 've tried too and the problem exist in every acer laptop I tried, in order to boot with acpi you have to blacklist yenta_socket in /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf what I did was install ubuntu using acpi=off then blacklist yenta_socket and turn on acpi again
