Binary package hint: compiz
By default Desktop effects are on by me. After GNOME starts the window
titlebars're displayed with aprox. 7-8 font size, and very small
buttons. (I use 1680x1050 native res. on a 22" TFT, and 96 dpi). After
disabling Desktop Effects, then reenabling them, the titlebars displayed
correctly.
