What about the 0.7.1 patch (forum patch announcement < http://openarena.ws/board/index.php?topic=985>) that goes in ~/.openarena/baseoa ? It's really only an update to the data, and contains no modifications to the game engine.
It is not included in the getdeb package that Lutz mentioned, but I did find OA 0.7.1 at http://www.getdeb.net/release.php?id=1379 Shouldn't that be used instead?
