Public bug reported: I have a second monitor on DisplayPort, and its list of supported resolutions was limited to 800x600 and 1024x768 after the latest kernel update.
I was able to restore the native resolution (1440p) for the monitor using xrandr. I'm on Ubuntu 14.04.1 and the GPU is the integrated one on a Haswell CPU. DisplayPort is run through a Thinkpad laptop dock. What I did: Installed the latest Ubuntu kernel update, as recommended by Software Updater What I expected to happen: Resolution of external monitor should not have been affected What happened instead: Supported modes for external monitor were removed, had to use xrarnd to restore native resolution ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+1ubuntu8 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-35.62-generic 3.13.11.6 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-35-generic x86_64 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.3 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Fri Aug 29 11:44:44 2014 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: trusty DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: i915-3.15-3.13, 0.01, 3.13.0-32-generic, x86_64: installed i915-3.15-3.13, 0.01, 3.13.0-34-generic, x86_64: installed i915-3.15-3.13, 0.01, 3.13.0-35-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation Haswell-ULT Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0a16] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo Device [17aa:2214] InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-08-19 (9 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140722.2) MachineType: LENOVO 20AL00BYMS ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.13.0-35-generic root=UUID=58f7be01-3efd-41f5-adbb-d0a430268da1 ro quiet splash vt.handoff=7 SourcePackage: xorg Symptom: display UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 02/06/2014 dmi.bios.vendor: LENOVO dmi.bios.version: GIET69WW (2.19 ) dmi.board.asset.tag: Not Available dmi.board.name: 20AL00BYMS dmi.board.vendor: LENOVO dmi.board.version: SDK0E50510 PRO dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Information dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: LENOVO dmi.chassis.version: Not Available dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnLENOVO:bvrGIET69WW(2.19):bd02/06/2014:svnLENOVO:pn20AL00BYMS:pvrThinkPadX240:rvnLENOVO:rn20AL00BYMS:rvrSDK0E50510PRO:cvnLENOVO:ct10:cvrNotAvailable: dmi.product.name: 20AL00BYMS dmi.product.version: ThinkPad X240 dmi.sys.vendor: LENOVO version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.11.2+14.04.20140714-0ubuntu1 version.ia32-libs: ia32-libs N/A version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.54-1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 10.2.2-0intel1 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 10.2.2-0intel1 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.15.1-0ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.8.2-1ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.3.0-1ubuntu3.1 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.911-0intel1 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.10-1ubuntu2 xserver.bootTime: Fri Aug 29 11:32:03 2014 xserver.configfile: default xserver.errors: xserver.logfile: /var/log/Xorg.0.log xserver.outputs: product id 16512 vendor DEL xserver.version: 2:1.15.1-0ubuntu2 ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug compiz-0.9 resolution third-party-packages trusty ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1363017 Title: Resolution breaks on external monitor after 3.13.0-35 update To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1363017/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
