The toolkit problem with standalone labels is bug 1242666. I can't reproduce this bug in 14.10 r179, but what you describe is what I actually designed, so I assume it's been implemented somewhere that I can't see yet.
It may be true that the "After 1 minute" summary value gives people too narrow an idea of what is inside the screen. If so, we could remove the summary value.
