I'm having this issue on 14.04. Here's a workaround:

sudo apt-get install wmctrl # if necessary
wmctrl -R 'Software Updater'
```
```
wmctrl --help | grep -A1 ' -R'
-R <WIN> Move the window to the current desktop and
activate it.
```
