Public bug reported:

I have just upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04.1.

I had to re-install gnome-core as most of it had been removed by the
upgrade process.

Now when I login with any of the gnome wm options I get my background
image but no panels and no right-button menus on the background.

xfce4 works but is very slow.
