Thanks for your report. Can you please test if this is still an issue?
Try with a live CD, and please attach xorg.conf.

In Feisty, /var/lib/dpkg/info/xserver-xorg.postinst line 2412 should strip away 
any " in the monitor identifier:
 MONITOR_IDENTIFIER="$(echo "$PROBE_DUMP" | grep "^id:" | sed -e 's/^id: //g' 
-e 's/"//g')"

You can run "sudo xresprobe vesa" (on a virtual console) to see the
identifier returned from the monitor.
