I also have a system which I thought could not be upgraded beyond 12.04
because of a lack of PAE support, but then I recently found that many
Pentium M CPUs can work with a PAE kernel, but do not advertise PAE
support.

To check whether this is the case for your system, simply install a PAE kernel:
sudo apt-get install linux-generic-pae linux-headers-generic-pae
See: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/EnablingPAE

If you find your system really does not work with a PAE kernel, all is not
lost, see:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Lubuntu-fake-PAE

I'm marking this bug as affecting modemmanager instead of modem-manager-
gui.

** Changed in: modem-manager-gui (Ubuntu)
       Status: New => Invalid
