It's all matter of legacy bios or uefi booting. The installer *must* be booted 
in the same mode as the windows was installed in. Otherwise the installer will 
not find the other OS. When the windows is installed in bios mode and the 
ubuntu installer is booted in uefi, it does not find windows.
I have had win7 installed in legacy mode, booted installer in legacy (win7 
recognized) and still it deleted everything.
