I faced the bug as well, however none of the reported workarounds worked for me.
After a bit of testing I found out that the error doesn't appear when booting a boot-entry from the grub-submenu "Advanced options for Ubuntu" (see attachements), it only appears when selecting the default entry "Ubuntu". Since the first entry of the "Advanced"-submenu is the same as the standard (i.e. the one using the latest kernel) entry, changing the default boot entry from "0" to "1" in /etc/default/grub did the trick for me. The error doesn't shop up any more. /etc/default/grub #GRUB_DEFAULT=0 GRUB_DEFAULT=1 Just for the sake of completeness: Moving that entry out of the submenu (by altering /etc/grub/grub.cfg manually) makes the bug reappear. The entry has to be within the submenu. ** Attachment added: "GRUB menu (including submenu "Advanced options for Ubuntu")" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1311247/+attachment/4165759/+files/grub_menu.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1311247 Title: [Grubenv] error: malformed file, press any key to continue To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/grub/+bug/1311247/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
